I want you to join my rebellion.
I’m done falling for slick, used-car-lot sales pitches. I guarantee that you’ve fallen for one. We all have.
And.
Truth be told, at some point, we stopped regularly looking under the hood before buying (ideas not cars…I think most people ironically do a fair bit of research when they buy cars)
Bad-faith used-car sales pitches are selling us things (ideas) that break down the moment we leave the lot.
So, I mean to change that.
I mean to bring together people of all backgrounds and beliefs in an effort to stand up and say “No! This 2011 Ford Fiesta is not for us but thank you for the offer!”
A world where sketchy used-car sales pitches hold less power over us. That’s the vision.
And what I am doing to accomplish this vision?
Sourced! Inc.
This nonpartisan nonprofit organization will flood the zone with projects that push good-faith debate and discourse, lifelong learning, and information vigilance.
What we don’t know—and what we don’t bother to double-check (adequately look up, look for corroborating sources)—are the things that cause all of us, from me to your grandmother, to fall for bad-faith sales pitches. And bad-faith debate and discourse is holding us back from discovering that we’ve been led astray. We’re letting our emotions and egos cloud our judgement. We’re taking the easy way out and turning to the dark side of the force (or the Schwartz if you’re into bigger helmets).
So, with high energy and earnest Kansas origins, we will reach that random person on the actual street or the digital world (where they actually are like snapchat, tik tok, youtube, etc) and we will spread our gospel of hope, love of learning, and skepticism.
We envision flooding the zone with:
Short-form high energy educational videos with experts and public figures and regular everyday well-sourced people demystifying everything from voting to vaccines.
Sourced! Affiliate Influencer Networks promising to work together with us and be as well-sourced as possible. Giving people a list of social media influencers they can trust to not lead them astray.
Public debates on Twitch, styled like high school competitions, with an emphasis on sources, clarity, and learning—not yelling.
Chapters at schools and colleges, hosting accessible, nonpartisan discussions that inspire curiosity and challenge misinformation.
Live events—from benefit debates for causes like Special Olympics, to speaker series promoting rational discourse (livestreamed as much as possible for all to enjoy no matter the location)
A well-run website as a free educational resource for everyone. A neutral point of view with pros and cons behind hot button issues such as trickledown economic policies and the current and ongoing changes in government. A place for the everyday citizen to go and learn without feeling led towards a specific viewpoint.
Ad Campaigns that promote our goals and ask people to “Know Your Odds” (for vaccines) and other cleverly crafted messages that promote examining issues and getting a clearer picture on issues that bad actors often misrepresent.
